1. Please introduce yourself.
im chloe, also known as noctcaelum - directly ripped from my favourite character, noctis lucis caelum from ffxv.
2. How long have you been making websites?
since 2020 on carrd, moved to neocities in 2025 !
3. And what got you into the hobby?
a lot of people on stantwt and other subtwts i joined had carrds, then i just continued to love making them, i don't remember how i found neocities but i kept going bc i just wanted a place to post my stuff lol
4. What kind of website are you most interested in?
personal sites - usually sites with lifestyle (micro)blogs or sites centered around things im also interested in loool
5. What's your workflow? Do you plan your websites out thoroughly or do you come up with the design as you go along?
i usually have an idea of the content i want to put on the page, then css comes as an afterthought. when im actually coding, ill just get all the elements with placeholder text -> css -> content - which is why my pages are a bit barren
6. Please link to your biggest inspiration.
the reason i reformatted my website was due to my love for yuinoid's index page - the busy but minimalist look is defo what inspired me the most
7. What's your favourite part about making websites?
seeing all the content come together in the end and seeing my ideas on the page in the way i want it to
8. And the thing you struggle with the most?
ideas for page design LMFAO. i only have really basic ideas for pages so i end up struggling to make visually engaging pages and i get frustrated but its okay ! as long as the content is on the page then its whatever, i can always go back to edit it.
9. Do you keep the same layout on all of your pages? Or do you use different ones?
i'd like to think that they're different but they're all very similar, i prefer to keep the theme cohesive - which is why i dont experiment too much with color woops
10. How confident are you with CSS?
enough to do what i want but im always learning
11. Do you know how to correctly use <dl>?
yeah, i just barely use it
12. What is your favourite HTML element?
<details> / <summary> - minimalist dropdowns
13. If you're making a new web page from scratch, what is the first thing you do?
copy-pasting <head> then go from there
14. Do you know JavaScript?
enough to get by

yep
17. Are you more focused on content or design?
content, but obviously i have my own aesthetic preferences when it comes to design.
18. Do you own a domain name? If not, would you ever want to?
not really lol, i just can't see myself spending money on it
19. What do you think of nostalgia-focused or "retro" websites?
they're fun to look at
20. Is your HTML valid? Do you even check?
i think its valid(?) i dont check at all, but i don't think i use any deprecated tags(?), i know that when i first started i abused <center> and <marquee>
21. What are your opinion on buttons and banners?
i like them!
22. What do you think of button walls in particular?
found a lot of cool sites from them! i defo want to expand mine.
23. If you started over again, would you make something similar or completely different?
probably something different
24. Are you envious of other people's websites?
not really! brains are beautiful so their creations should be celebrated
25. What text editors do you use?
neocities editor, vscode, codepen
26. Why do you use those ones?
rlly depends what im doing or feel like opening, neocities editor for quick fixes/changes, vscode/codepen for making whole webpages
27. Do you host your image files on your web server, or on another host?
images on my own webserver, buttons on imgchest
28. This might not be relevant to you, but what's your opinion on the Neocities vs. Nekoweb debate?
doesn't matter to me
29. How much server space would you estimate your main website takes up?
140.06 MB, thanks to my uncompressed gallery .jpgs - i'll sort this out when i want to edit the behemoth page
30. Do you keep local backups of your files?
i do, but forget to update them
31. Do you prefer simple or highly visual websites?
for myself, simpler , cleaner sites, but i like to look at visual websites ! - my very first layout (which i no longer have an image of) was defo inspired by them
32. Do you stick to certain colours? Do you do that on purpose, or is it your subconscious?
i always stick to darker teal and pale green for the colors that i use, just because i like teal lol - my fav color lwk this (#364159) tho
33. Have you ever thought about quitting? Why?
not quitting, but taking breaks - which i did when i started uni again, just got busy with irl stuff
34. Do you have many webmaster friends, or is it a solitary hobby?
i'd say i interact with a few people but its mostly just my own thing
35. Do people in your real life know about your website?
yep ! its linked in my discord and priv ig, a few friends read through it :)
36. Do you update your website very often? How often is "very often"?
i'd say often enough, i can update everyday or every few days - just depends on what ideas i have
37. And the overall design, do you change that much? Why or why not?
just depends what im feeling, i can be dissatisfied with a lot of my pages but it really is motivation/idea-based
38. Is your website more you-focused, hobby-focused, or outside world-focused?
myself and hobbies

heeeell no

i defo wouldn't do anything to do with coding, strictly a hobby. im currently a 3rd year undergrad university student studying pharmacology, going into a research internship relating to cellular and molecular pathways in neurodegeneration.
41. Do you communicate with people by email very much?
sometimes ! and when i do its enjoyable :P
42. Some people reject social media and use websites as a replacement. Do you keep social media outside of your website?
i do ! i dont post very much tho lol - i use instagram and twitter most often, just for messaging friends. my boyfriend and i message on literally every platform that we own though.
43. How about instant messengers? Do you use a mainstream one like Discord or Telegram? Or something like Matrix? Do you avoid them?
yeah, discord and whatsapp - messaging friends and work - i really prefer my closest friends to message on imessage thooo
44. Do you listen to music while you work on websites? If so, what kinds of artists?
always, and if not, im watching youtube. i listen to any genre and my playlists can be found on my spotify
45. Do you keep everything you make on one website, or do you have more than one?
just the one
46. On a similar note, do you keep to one topic on your site, or many?
multiple topics, just anything im thinking about
47. Do you present your real self, or at least try? Or do you construct a persona on purpose?
my real self, realer than anywhere else online at least

49. Are you happy with the way HTML and CSS currently work?
yeah :thumbs_up:
50. What are practices that you think people should avoid?
loud autoplay and miniature, low-contrast text - hard to read
51. What about under-utilised practices, or things you think people should do more?
probably responsiveness (guilty) - when elements take a while to load its not amazing
52. Do you use a lot of semantic HTML? Or are you guilty of generic structure?
im trying to ! most of my newer pages incorporate it and i plan on editing my older pages so the code looks cleaner :)
53. Do you consider different browsers?
i just use firefox
54. Speaking of, what's your preferred browser? Convince your readers why they should use it.
uhh firefox
55. And what OS are you on?
windows but can dualboot linux (i use mint, and used to use nobara kde since i played a lot of games - what a nerd)

everythings on windows, linux for fun

i've been trying to do my best, but some look a bit jank

not the biggest fan, i just mute the page more often than not

im not in any, i knew i previously wanted to but nothing has come out of it

i dont have any webshrines, but i may do in the future, idk i dont feel too crazy strong about anything. i like reading through other people's though, they give new perspectives on different things i enjoy

yeah defo

i don't really have an ideal website, i just want to write things

i've drawn one asset and its the title card on the index, otherwise i draw for myself

don't really use very many resources so anything listed in my resources page

forgetting to make folders for files, i need to sort that out one day

just have fun and don't compare yourself to other sites too much

both, but thats bc im too lazy to make ids for everything

yeah, my resources and buttons page didn't but then i wanted everything to be colored the way i wanted it

somewhere in the middle, always learning but also has sufficient knowledge to make whatever i want

how cool i am with how much media ive consumed. the thing about that is that most of my media has been logged on either myanimelist or on last.fm

i started with gamedev, helping out my friends when they wanted to enter game jams, so i've probably spent most time in C++ and Godot. otherwise, during uni, i use a lot of R for data science, Python as well. all 4 are self-taught and to a sufficient level i'd say. i wasn't interested in compsci at all before uni lol

haven't ever thought about them

just the editor, i've published pages with so many typos before

a lot of people would say im a loser, some people irl say im cool idk about online though

yeah, my web design was awful, the content i'd write was awful WHATEVER MAN

i'd leave it up

i used post a lot of personal heavy stuff that i probably shouldn't have but id like to say i still write personal things but with a bit more online safety :thumbs_up:

sayoung and hayoon my dads who i've forced to read this page - they dont have websites and probably are too busy to ever make them
